About GardenSproutly

GardenSproutly is a free website that helps home gardeners answer two questions: what to plant, and when.

Why we built it

Planting dates depend on where you garden. Many online planting calendars give one date for a whole state or work only from hardiness zones, which describe winter cold rather than frost dates and season length. University Extension services publish much better regional guidance, but it is often buried in PDFs and tables that are hard to use on a phone in the garden.

GardenSproutly turns that research into fast, mobile-friendly calendars and guides, and cites the original source for every recommendation so you can check it yourself.

What we cover today

We are starting with North Carolina, using NC State Extension's separate planting calendars for eastern, central, and western North Carolina, along with sourced growing guides for popular vegetables. We will add other states and countries only after researching sources written for their own climates, and we will never relabel one region's dates for another.

How our content is made

Our planting calendars reproduce the dates in published Extension calendars. Where we work something out ourselves, such as indoor seed-starting dates or harvest estimates, we explain the method on the page. Read our editorial policy for details on sources, reviews, and corrections.

Independence

GardenSproutly is an independent website. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by NC State University, N.C. Cooperative Extension, the USDA, or any other organization whose publications we cite. The site has no accounts, sponsors, or advertising.

Educational information only

Our guides are general educational information. Weather varies from year to year, and elevation, soil, and microclimate affect every garden. For advice about your specific site, contact your local county Cooperative Extension office.
